“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” This deep and meaningful quote is by Henry Ward Beecher and I love it.
Art is something which I blog very rarely on New Labels Only. The last time I did a post on creative art was on Brian Ginieski Ceramics. The post was well received by everyone and I can now say that Brian Ginieski Ceramics kickstarter campaign has been fully funded and also exceeded it’s target.
I am pretty sure you are still looking at the picture above, gorgeous right? I was looking through Kickstarter and this picture came up. I thought this is new and I had to share it with you guys.
Who created this mesmerizing print?
Well, this picture was created by Simple Things Design. They are small team of designers, dreamers, and city lovers who celebrate the simple things in life. They are based in San Francisco, California and their work is just too gorgeous.
You may have spotted a pattern here. All the art work are of cities. Simple Things Design latest project is Urban Prints. It is an elegant collection of 12 urban cities illustrated in a black and white minimalism.
They are not posters that you hang on your wall and occasionally look at. Each print tells you a story, an experience and an intricate memory.
Most dictionaries simply define a city as “an inhabited place of greater size, population, or importance than a town or village.”
This sounds incomplete to us.
Simple Things Design
After reading that quote above, you may be thinking that cities are vibrant places, full of life, and full of colours so why are the prints black and white?
That is definitely a good question. Simple Designs Thing wants you to have your own interpretation of the city. They do not want to influence your senses and make you have a bias view towards the print. It is up to you to find the meaning of the prints and to develop your own perspective toward it.
The Cities
Not all cities made the list and the one who made it are pretty special I have to say.
- San Francisco, U.S.A.
- New York City’s Manhattan, U.S.A.
- Tokyo, Japan
- Chicago, U.S.A.
- Los Angeles, U.S.A.
- Seattle, U.S.A.
- Toronto, Canada
- Melbourne, Australia
- Seoul, South Korea
- Johannesburg,South Africa
- Paris, France
- Santiago, Chile
I am pretty annoyed that London is not on the list, but hey the list is pretty amazing already.
All the prints are very well detailed with key features of each city. It is so detailed that even architects, cartographers, and urban planners would be highly impressed.
With such detailed prints, the Urban Print project team must have spent countless sleepless hours drawing every little feature of each city. All the prints even has every little minor road. Seriously, this is brilliant!
Urban Prints are not ordinary posters; they are photographic-quality flat prints on Fine Art Paper. They all have an archival life of over 400 years, making it very easy to pass it down to the next generation.
I did not want to write a lot on about this post. I am pretty sure the images has spoken to you in their own voice.
I would definitely encourage you to visit their kickstarter page and also to show your support to Simple Things Designs’ Urban Prints.

I love Toronto, San Francisco, Paris and Washington DC… the latter two are so similar its ridiculous. I go to Seoul often, it has its charms, but its mass confusion and wouldn’t be on my list. I hope to visit South Africa and awhile one day. Thanks for sharing.

It is certainly an intruiging concept for art. I am very curious as to being able to discover their meanings behind it all.
