Unboxing

First Impression

The packing remains the same, with the same half open box design. The one feature which will catch your eyes is the carbon mimicking design on the casing. It does go well with the overall black colour of the casing and the red strap. Another feature which stands out is the ‘Superman’ logo type design at the 12 o’clock position, interesting feature to say the least. Otherwise, Wishdoit Racing GT Chrono Quartz looks the part.

Dial

The black dial is sleek and sophisticated, and it’s contrasted beautifully by the vibrant red strap, giving it a dynamic look. As with previous Wishdoit watches, the Wishdoit Racing GT Chrono Quartz has multiple features on the dial. As mentioned before, the ‘Superman’ logo at the 12 o’clock position is unusual. It is empty at the center and adding some sort of colour or design would have elevated the dial even more.

There are two indexes, one on the outer dial for the tachymeter and the inner one for the numerals. Both are in a white colour, which works perfectly against the black background for better visibility. A luminous coating has been applied to the triangles on the inner index, which works fine. However it will need some topping up with a UV light from time to time. Adding the luminous coating on the numerals would also have been ideal, but not available on this model.

Wishdoit Racing GT Chrono Quartz

Moving to the sub dials, the main feature, they are of a decent size and the hands along with numerals/index are visible. We do like how Wishdoit have added a hint of yellow, orange and red on the sub dials index’s to make it stand out even more. There is a small Easter egg as the hands of the sub dial is the colour of index of the opposite sub dial. The chronograph features are easy to navigate, with sub-dials that provide a clear and precise reading of elapsed time. They do respond well to the pushers and do reset to their position.

The hands are large enough and have an arrow design. The tips are luminous. The second hand is of a baton design and with a red tip. No issues at all here.

There is a date window on this watch. Located near the 4/5 o’clock position, it has a white background however it gets lost with the rest of the index. Making the window slightly larger would have helped in knowing it is there.

The overall design is clean but bold, making it an excellent accessory that stands out without being overly flashy.

Casing

The 316L Stainless Steel casing remains the same, 42 by 50mm with a width of 14.8mm. It’s not overly large or bulky, but it does have a solid presence on the wrist, which perfectly balances the sporty nature of the timepiece. The watch sits well on the wrist and the slight curve on the casing ensures that there are no gaps between the lugs. This is also helped with the tonneau shape of the casing.

The one interest feature is the carbon type design on the top. It just adds a bit more edge to the watch and it does go well with the rest of the theme, which is racing!

Sapphire coated mineral glass has been used on the Wishdoit Racing GT Chrono Quartz go give it a tough factor. The aim with the sapphire is that scratches will be minimal and handle any stress. Glares and reflections is low, which really helps given the size and features of the watch.

The pushers are on the soft side for the watch. You cannot hear the click which is a s slight disappointment. Given the watch theme is towards racing, a strong click would have been great, but that it not to say that the pushers do not work or is not responsive.

The back casing has been engraved with a V6 Mustang GT.

Movement

We have come across the Seiko VD53 multiple times across our time reviewing watches. A quick recap of the movement, the VD53 is a quartz chronograph movement, designed for precise timekeeping and adding the functionality of a chronograph, or stopwatch feature.

Expect a time accuracy of ± 20 seconds monthly and this is the average for this movement. Battery life is 3 years but this is subject to usage of the chronograph.

Strap

Made from fluorine rubber, the strap is comfortable and durable. It has a sporty, yet refined, appearance and is flexible enough to ensure a secure fit on the wrist. There are enough holes available to fit smaller wrist, given that our wrist is 17cm in circumference.

If you do not fancy the red strap, there are other strap available on the Wishdoit website. You will need the specialist tool to change the strap as there are no quick release pins, which is a disappointment.

Buy, Shortlist or Avoid?

The GT Racing Chronograph Black Quartz Watch with the red strap is a great option for anyone looking for a stylish and functional timepiece, but before making our decision, we have to talk about the price. Starting at $229, it is mid market price and we think it is a fair price. It reflects the quality of the watch and features. We will stay this is a buy as the combination of a bold design, solid functionality, and comfort makes it a worthwhile investment. We just hope that the add quick release pins in their future models.
