We have been blogging about watches a lot lately. The last post we did was a review of the AVI-8 4011-0G. Now we are back at it with another watch brand, Flex Watches, making an impact with every watch sold!

So this watch brand is new to us and probably new to most people in the UK, we think, but Flex Watches is pretty huge in the US.

Making An Impact

So who is Flex Watches? Well they first started as a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 and was very well funded. They raised approximately $64,000. When they launched the kickstarter campaign, every watch sold provided a meal for children in need. We do not know how many watches was sold, but if we do the maths, it is approximately 1,000 watches sold or so. But since then, they must have sold hundreds of thousands of watches.

But since then, they have expanded the brand and are now helping more causes and making an impact in people’s life in a larger capacity.

But how did the idea of Flex Watches come about?

The Beginning of Something Great

Flex Watches is the brainchild of two friends, maybe best friends, Travis and Trevor. They wanted to do something, something good, something which was going to help people and make an impact. They came up with Flex Watches but the idea of inspired by Trevor’s mum, Karen-Kagan Jones.

She was fighting cancer and also kicking cancer in the cojones. She was also helping and volunteering while spreading her positive energy to the world. She chose joy everyday till she passed away in 2012.

To start making changes and having an impact in people’s life, no matter how big the problem is, small changes are needed. Small changed will eventually add up and make a big change, and this is where Flex Watches was born. 10% of sales is donated directly to different causes and charities.

The Causes

Since their launch in 2015 as a kickstarter campaign, they are now helping many, many causes. They have different coloured watch wrist brand to represent different causes. From their website, they currently support 10 causes. They are:

• Hunger
• Breast Cancer
• Clean Water
• Arts
• Environment
• Autism
• Military
• Animal Rescue
• Anti Bullying
• Alzheimer’s

Making an Impact with Clean Water

We wish we could talk about every cause and explain the impact Flex Watches is having on each of them, but we are going to a cause which is dear to us, Clean Water.

We definitely take water for granted. There is definitely no argument about it. But some people cherish water more than money. Data and research from the Thirst Project shows that 663 million people do not have access to clean water. It is estimated that every 21 seconds a child dies from water related disease. Just imagine, you opening your tap and all that is coming out is some brown, disease infested water. What do you do? Drink it or find another source?

Most will probably find another source of water but someone in a developing nation and community will have to walk 3.75 miles to the nearest water source, while also carrying a 5 gallon jerrycan which weighs around 44 pounds.

So how is Flex Watches helping? 10% of sales from the clean water watches are donated to Thirst Project. The Thirst Project is funding various projects to bring clean water to communities, improving sanitation and also hygiene level.

Each watch cost $35 and comes in two different sizes, a 36mm and 45mm case. The watches are waterproof up to 50 meters. The bands are interchangeable and made out of high grade silicone.
