Thomas Earnshaw watches always have an eye for design and creating the unique. The last time we reviewed a Thomas Earnshaw watch was the Cornwall Retrograde, a watch with a simply fantastic dial. Today we are going to review one of their latest addition to their watch collection, the Thomas Earnshaw Beaufort ES-8082-01. So is it going to be a masterful piece of design or just another over elaborated watch?

First Impression
When you first look at the watch, the first feature which will catch your eye is the open heart and the fly wheel. It does really look the part and the colour of the jewels stands out, so you will definitely not miss it.
Dial
The diameter of the dial is 43mm, which is pretty huge. The dial will definitely take most or all of the space on your wrist. At a width of 15.5mm, this watch will stand on your wrist. Not that it is a bad thing, some people may not really appreciate the width as it will get in the way. However we like the large width of the watch, it helps brings a lot of emphasis and attention to the dial.
After the Open heart feature and the fly-wheel, there is another feature which we really like on the dial. It is the design and texture of the background. You have these geometric pattern going on across the whole dial. We do like that fact that the designer of the watch did not let the design be just painted on the dial but for it to be bold and 3D. You really want to open the dial and feel the texture of this geometric design.
Under the 12 o’clock, you have a 24 hour subdial. This subdial is independent from the hour hand and can be manipulated using a small button on the side of the watch. It is an interesting feature, one which we have never come across before, but it can be useful for people travelling between different time zones.
The index of the watch has also been well thought of. The numerals are Arabic italicised and very bold. For sure, you will find reading the dial easy. There is also a nice touch to the index with the railroad style watch marking around the circumference of the Thomas Earnshaw Beaufort ES-8082-01.
The hands are sharp and have a Breguet style. The colour of the hands contrasts with the white dial, so there will be no issue with legibility.
Casing
The casing is made from stainless steel and every curve and edges have been fully polished. The edge around the glass has soft and very glossy, so you will get that little shine.
One interesting feature about the casing is the Breguet style on the side. Some may think that this watch is a copy of a Breguet watch and you might not be wrong. After some research, the Thomas Earnshaw Beaufort ES-8082-01, is very, very similar to the Breguet Tourbillon Automatic Power Reserve Model #: 5317ba/12/9v6. But that put apart, the pillar-like design is just fantastic. It brings the watch to life and in terms of design, it a great addition to the watch.
The lug of the watch is around 20mm. It is on the larger side, but that is understandable given the large diameter of the watch. A smaller lug width will make the watch look weird.
The crown has been signed with ‘EE’ and has been given a teeth cut design. From the pictures, the crown does look big, but in reality, the crown size is fine and does not get in the way of the wrist.
The glass is made from Sapphire Crystal glass and they are clear as you get. There is also a slight domed on the glass. It is not noticeable but if you look on the side, you will see the slight dome of the glass.
In terms of the back casing, there is not much going on. It is your usual open back casing.
Movement
The movement inside is a mechanical automatic self-winding originating from Huangzhou. In terms of the time accuracy, you can expect +- 12 seconds per day. However, the movement and performance is great and flawless so far.
Strap
The strap is genuine leather and has a croco-patterned on top. The strap is already broken into and is also quite thin, so it molds around the wrist and very comfortable.
However and this is an issue, there are no quick release pins. This is a big downfall for this watch. We’d have love to see the dial with different colour strap especially a dark navy blue.
Buy, Shortlist or Avoid?
We will definitely say buy this watch. One of the reason is the price. At the moment the price of the watch is £370, however if you are willing to wait, you might find the price being reduced. Also remember the Breguet watch which we said resemble the Thomas Earnshaw Beaufort ES-8082-01, that watch retails for £120,000. That’s a lot of zeros. So if you want a Breguet watch at a fraction of the price, this is the one!
