In this edition of ‘A Moment with’, we are interviewing the founder of Vintro Watches. We will be reviewing their Le Mans 1952 watches soon but before let’s find out more about the brand. If you missed our last edition of our A Moment with Nodus watches founder, you can read it here.
What is Vintro as a brand? What does it stand for?
Vintro Watches was born out of our love for vintage watches and is based on years of experience in the field of used luxury watches and the founder’s penchant for the classic designs of the period from the 40s to the 80s. VINTRO is creating collectible timepieces in a classic retro design, which tells the story of a special time and meets the requirements of daily use. Wristwatches inspired by the great history of watchmaking craftsmanship that fit exactly into our era and yet are timeless. We feel committed to this claim.
What is your vision for Vintro Watches?
As a collector of used luxury watches, I was repeatedly asked about my wristwatches in my circle of friends. There was often the question of whether I could not get my friends such a watch, but when the price came up, interest waned relatively quickly. We wanted to change this. We want to offer modern wristwatches – inspired by the past – in a characteristic retro look, which should still remain affordable. A vintage style watch with today’s daily use requirements. Everyone should be able to afford VINTRO watches without having to sacrifice quality – Made in Germany. Quality, not quantity. Unique instead of usual.
What makes Vintro Watches different?
I believe because we are authentic. We are not marketing experts who are looking for quick money by importing watches. I have been a passionate collector of vintage watches for over 20 years and all our models and designs are created with passion and dedication, up to the smallest detail. A commitment that you will definitely feel. We certainly don’t make everything perfect, but we want to improve ourselves every day and will grow with the challenges together with our customers.
“Only those who have the courage to start something and get the stone rolling, so to speak, will make progress.”
Which is your favourite Vintro Watches and why?
My current favorite model is the VINTRO Le Mans 1952 Automatic Chronograph; yellow gold plated with the black classic leather strap. The clear, matte creamy dial and the polished dolphin hands embody the typical atmosphere of the 50ties. The polished stainless-steel case with a diameter of 40mm is comfortable to wear for both men and women. Due to the water resistant up to 10ATM (100 meters) and the curved sapphire crystal it can be worn during almost activities. Through the sapphire crystal case back, the Sea-Gull ST1940 automatic movement can be witnessed as it occurs – a piece of real watchmaking artistry for your wrist. With its elegant design and fascinating appearance, this retro chronograph is an eye-catcher and modern classic for every occasion, weather in the office, at dinner parties or during leisure time.
What challenges did you face when creating Vintro Watches?
The biggest challenge was to find the right partners and suppliers. Due to the strong internationalization of the watch industry and the high manufacturing costs in Germany, it was not easy to manufacture a watch – Made in Germany – and still be able to offer the customer an affordable price. The individual components of the watch had to be coordinated with the respective suppliers again and again and the mutual needs had to be taken into account. We are glad that we were able to master all of this to our satisfaction and that we have reliable partners at our side.
Are you a creator, inventor or entrepreneur?
A bit of everything. The origin story of our watches begins and ends in the Swabian Aalen. Not only the design is created here in the south of Germany. Made in Germany represents excellent quality and longevity. Hence, these are the reasons our watches are manufactured in Germany. The design, the assembly and the final quality control take place in Southern Germany. Partly directly with us, partly at a family-owned factory 100 kilometres from the VINTRO headquarters. With Swabian thoroughness, reliability and passion, we pursue only one goal – to produce honest watches that accompany you for a long time and with which you will write your own stories. We believe in quality instead of quantity — individuality instead of mainstream.
What is the future for Vintro Watches?
A good question in today’s fast-paced world – everything can happen very quickly, both positively and negatively. We have set ourselves the goal of establishing the brand and perfecting our direct sales for the next months. We are currently working on further models and hope to launch two or three of them within the next 12-18 months.
What advice do you have for people wanting to start their own watch brand?
Passion and courage, as well as perseverance and patience are certainly very important for all founders. If you are passionate about your product or service, you can convince yourself and others of it and will ultimately be rewarded for it.
Only those who have the courage to start something and get the stone rolling, so to speak, will make progress. Not everything has to be perfect from the start, you can also grow with time. But only when you start and get external opinions can you improve and achieve your goals.
Perseverance and patience are also very important. Not everything can always go according to plan and there will always be difficult phases. With patience and perseverance, these phases can be more easily overcome and positive insights can be drawn from the negative experiences.
This was our interview with the founder of Vintro Watches. As always, we love reading their advice to people wanting to start their watch brand and we love this line from them; “Only those who have the courage to start something and get the stone rolling, so to speak, will make progress.”
