First Impression
The packaging on the Wishdoit Pirate X Series is the same as the previous watches. The first feature which will grab your attention is the skeleton dial. The rose gold and black structure goes really well and the jewels is also a great feature. The size of the casing does project out and is quite bold. Overall, pretty impressed so far.
Dial
The reason why this watch is called the Wishdoit Pirate X Series is because there is an X on the dial. Painted in rose gold, the X is very visible and it does give off a 3D effect, as it is not a single line X, but rather a double baton. To make it more appealing, two purple jewels have been added to the dial at the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock position.
The rest of the casing as been filled with a PVD structural design, in a way mimicking another X shape. Behind the design you can see the balance wheel and rotors, in gold, which helps to break the rose gold and black colour theme.
As with the previous Wishdoit watches, a simple index has been used, with batons running along the perimeter of the tonneau dial. There are luminous dots used to present the numerals.
Skeleton hands design has been used for the hour and minute. However they have been given luminous ‘arrows’ to help them not get lost within the dial. Legibility of the hands is not an issue however it will take sometime for the eyes to know where they are located.
Overall, we are pleased with Wishdoit’s latest artistic and extravagant dial.
Casing
We are looking 42 by 50mm with a width of 14.8mm, similar size from the previous watches we have reviewed. The watch sits well on the wrist and the slight curve on the casing ensures that there are no gaps between the lugs. This is also helped with the tonneau shape of the casing.
Polished stainless 316L stainless steel has been used at surface and back casing. which looks well on this watch. Nothing too outstanding per say.
The side of the casing has been give some cut finish on either side. With a large star engraved on the teeth cut crown, it gives off a military style look.
The back casing of the watch is open, and you can see the rotor in full with its custom rotor. The open back casing does give an artistic vibe, with the intricate design of the custom rotor. It also makes a beautiful sound when the rotor moves, music to any watch lover’s ears.
With Mineral crystal glass used, glare is at its minimum, but a Sapphire glass would have added a bit more toughness and durability to the lens, one to look out for in the future.
Movement
Powering the Wishdoit Pirate X Series is a Miyota 82S7 Automatic Mechanical Movement. Time accuracy on such a momvent is -20~+40 sec/day. Expect an 80 hours power reserve from the movement, if the watch has been wound up properly. Getting to the nitty gritty of the movement, we are looking at Frequency 28,800 VPH (4.0 hz) with 21 jewels.
The rotor is also custom made for Wishdoit, an excellent touch we believe and overall the movement is your standard entry level for this type of watch.
Strap
Fluorine rubber strap has been used, similar to most of Wishdoit Watches. If you do not like the black strap, there are other colours available to purchase from their website. The strap fits and wraps around the wrist very well and comfort is great. There are enough holes for smaller wrist and the strap is inter changeable. No quick release pins, which is a slight disappointment.
Buy, Shortlist or Avoid?
As always, let us discuss the price. The RRP of the watch is $/£ 380. It is on the mid-market level, and it is the same price for many of Wishdoit’s automatic watches. The Wishdoit Pirate X Series main purpose is to be fashionable and bold watch, rather than a simple watch to tell the time. It’s design of the dial and bold character is what you will be paying the money for. For us, it is on the expensive side, and we would shortlist this watch.
