First Impression
A new look to the packaging and it has caught our eyes straight away. It feels more luxurious and well put together. The watch itself has a different allure. The olive green and black colour scheme goes really well together and the dial is attractive. The watch dial is not big but it gives a bold look. So far we love the watch.
Unboxing
Dial
The dial of the watch is very engaging. You have different indexes and features which brings the dial to life. The first feature you will cast your eyes upon is the bulky rectangles used for the index. They are very much noticeable and the beige colour used is a good choice.
The outer index has numbers in intervals of five. This index has rings going around it to help break it away from the black background. However, to make it even more interesting, the numbers have a range of colours. It starts off from orange, red, light blue, and ends with white. Again, a wise choice from the designer to make the Spinnaker Bradner GMT stand out.
The main focus of the watch is the bezel index. The chunky and 3D design has been used for the numbers and it really goes well with the background. It also bring the dial to life and makes it more interesting. To keep the olive green effect ongoing, the colour behind the index has been split between olive green and black.
The hands used are bulky and their design are very brawny. The hour hand is especially noticeable with a rectangular design near its tip. The second hand is a single syringe style with a dot at the end. For the GMT hand, to make it stand out, the tip has been given a bright orange colour and this contrast well against the black background.
Legibility is perfect despite the different features and the date window located at the 3 o’clock position is also the perfect size.
Swiss Newlite has been applied to the index and bezel, and visibility during low light is perfect.
Casing
42mm by 15mm is a decent size for the Spinnaker Bradner GMT. It does not take too much space on the wrist and sits well despite the 15mm thickness. The curve lugs do help with the comfort of the watch as it helps to press it on the wrist.
Not much to say about the 316L stainless steel used. It has been given a polished finishing and it goes well with either the rubber or stainless steel strap.
We have a Sapphire Lens with Anti Reflection Coating and this a great choice. Strong, durable and minimal reflection from all angles. One feature from the glass is the folded effect on the circumference, to show the thickness of the lens.
The bezel is fixed to the casing and the movement of the numerals is controlled by the upper crown. To make the bezel stand out, it is slightly elevated and the slightly thicker compare to the rest of the casing.
The crown themselves are of a decent size and easily controllable The crown for the bezel basic and easy to use. The crown to control the time and date is a screw in type and again easily adjustable. Both crowns do not get in the way of the wrist and is comfortable.
Movement
Behind the scene is a solid entry level movement, the NH34 Seiko Automatic. It has 24 Jewels and produces 21,600 BPH. The time accuracy is +- 10 seconds monthly, but that will depend on the usage. No complaints regarding the choice of the movement.
Strap
We prefer the olive green rubber strap. The colour goes well with the rest of the watch. There are more than enough holes to fit smaller wrist. However if you prefer the stainless steel strap, the watch also comes with the link removal tool. Easily adjustable and ready with the quick release pins. The ends of the stainless steel strap do have a small curvature which create a smooth flow from the casing to the strap.
Buy, Shortlist or Avoid?
Priced at £473, it can be said that the Spinnaker Bradner GMT is a mid market watch. Given the features, look and design, we have to say this watch is a buy. We like the olive green and black colour scheme, it just stands outs from the rest of the crowd. However, if you do not like it, there are different colours available on their website.
