Spinnaker Watches Croft Mid-Size Review

The last time we reviewed a Spinnaker watch, it was the Spinnaker Fluess Chrono. That was a stunning looking watch with a very interesting and mesmerizing dial. Now we will review their last release, the Spinnaker Watches Croft Mid-Size. They already have a Croft series, however this new series is different in both size and style. Let us see if the new series will live to our expectation. The model we will be reviewing is the Regiment Blue.

First Impression

The packing was well done and represented the brand very well. However, it is the inside that matters the most. Once you open the box, the watch shows up straight away. The blue and gold theme of the watch is absolutely stunning and catches your eyes straight away. The watch has a bold and commanding feeling and we really like that.

Casing

The Spinnaker Watches Croft Mid-Size has a diameter of 40mm and the width is 13.8mm. Is 40mm Mid-Size? But the diameter size fits the watch. There are a lot going on with the dial and the size fits it. The width is smaller compare to other dive watches. This is because the back casing is not up lifted compare to other dive watches and this helps with the width. The casing does sit well on the wrist and this aided by the curved lugs which helps to wrap the watch around the wrist.

Let’s have a look at the key feature of any dive watch, the bezel. The bezel is a 120 Unidirectional made from aluminium plate. We have always reviewed bezels with ceramic plating and this is slightly different. The clicks are smooth, crisp and sharp. The feeling on the aluminium is better than the ceramic as it has a matte and rugged look. On the bezel, we have a four of numerals, followed by bars, dots and pointers. The only issue with the bezel is that none of the features have Swiss Super-LumiNova. This would have been a great feature, especially on the numerals.

The crown is a screw in crown. It is large enough and it has been signed off with Spinnaker Watches’ logo. However, we would have loved to see the crown protected and covered. This would have flowed seamlessly with rest of the stainless steel casing and strap.

The back casing is closed and we cannot see the rotor and the jewels in action.

Dial

The dial is bold on the Croft Mid-Size. It is bold in colour and it is very imposing on the wrist. Let’s start off with the index. To keep the dial simple, dots have been used along with bar at the six, twelve and nice o’clock position. The dots and the bars themselves are quite large but we live that feature. It gives the dial more life and character. There is an outer index with simple white bars. The main index have Applied Swiss Super-LumiNova. Dive watch fans may argue that the LumiNova is not effective and does not work properly. But we have to disagree with them on the Croft Mid-Size. The legibility at night is great and the bold index will definitely make sure.

Spinnaker Watches Croft Mid-Size Strap

The dial comes in two colours, black and blue. We are going to be bias and say the blue is the better option. The dial has a degraded finish and this adds a bit more ruggedness feel and look to the watch.

An anti-reflective coating has been applied to the scratch resistant sapphire lens. The lens is slightly domed which helps to bring the dial into focus. The anti-reflective coating helps with legibility however there are some glare on the watch, nothing too much to worry about. The date window on the amplified and this is a trademark for a dive watch.

A pencil design has been used for the hands. They are also bold and large. They do take some space on the dial but it add more boldness to the watch. Applied Swiss Super-LumiNova has been added to the hands.

Strap

The strap used is a Solid Stainless Steel with Fold Over Buckle. We are not the biggest fan of stainless steel strap but the one used is actually very surprising. It is comfortable on the wrist and it is also quite heavy, which we like. The links are also smooth and no large gaps in between, and this also applied to the connection between the lugs and the strap.

The buckle is also easy to secure and has been signed with Spinnaker Watches’ logo.
