You probably remember the review we did for the Pininfarina Senso Hybrid watch. We loved the watch, with its different function and practicality. Pininfarina has now added another hybrid watch to their growing collection, the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid. The model we will be reviewing is the Azure Horizon. The Sintesi has been labelled as the “perfect balance between classic watchmaking and cutting-edge technology. Featuring a 316L Stainless Steel case & bezel with sapphire crystal glass, the smartwatch is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors to help your move through the world“. Let’s see if this statement is true!

Unboxing

First Impression

The package has not changed from the Senso. Simple and a quality box. The watch looks sleek, stylish and sophisticated. The polished 316L stainless steel goes very well with the blue strap and it does not look like a tech watch. The OLED display at the 12 o’clock blends in well with the rest of dial when off. So far, the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid looks amazing. But has the technology improved and will it make the cut?

Dial

The dial is simple on the Pininfarina Sintesi and has not changed much from the Senso. The background has a blue textured finish and it is visible from certain angle. A lovely finish and it brings out the Pininfarina logo at the 3 o’clock position.

A white background has been used on the outer index, which has simple black batons and numerals in interval of five. Moving closer to the center, batons have been used with superluminova applied on them. Visibility will not be an issue and the batons do not take too much space on the dial.

Located at the 12 o’clock position, you have the OLED display for the various features the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid possesses. Working the OLED is done by the crown and pushers. The OLED blends well with the rest of the dial even when it is not in use. This is ideal as it will not leave a massive hole on the watch. Visibility and legibility of the display is great.

The hands design used is batons, with superluminova on the body. Simple and an effective design. Still no second hand but that is not needed on a smart watch. To compensate for the second hand, a sub dial has been used at the 6 o’clock position. With a reflective navy blue background, the sub dial looks the part. A white index has been used with a yellow hand. Yellow colour hands, blue background and a hint of white is always the perfect combination to make the most attractive watch.

Casing

The casing is on the larger side with 44mm by 16mm. However compared to the Senso the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid has a circular casing, which helps with the space on the wrist. It is comfortable on the wrist and the pushers and crown does not get in the way.

The polished 316L stainless steel casing goes very well with the watch. There is a small bezel which is slightly elevated from the rest of the casing. It is slightly curved to help focus on the dial.

Using anti finger print sapphire crystal glass is a good choice. A strong and durable glass, with glare at its minimum. The anti finger print coating does work and in all honesty, more watch companies should do this.

The lugs have curved and this is very much needed. This helps to press the casing on the wrist and does not make the watch stick out too much. There are small gaps between the lug and strap. It is not a deal breaker but that is just being picky. Given if you chose the more sportier rubber strap, this will not be an issue.

Technology

The technology has not changed from the Senso to the Sintesi. The features are more or less the same. The app is easy to navigate and also to pair with the watch. If you watch to track and add your fitness to Google Fit or Strava, it is easily done on the app also.

Weather

The OLED display shows the weather for the next 7 days. Little weather widget appears on the display and works perfectly.

Remote

This feature gives access to music and camera. The music feature works fine and you can play, pause or skip the song via the watch. Not the greatest feature when it comes to controlling your phone to take a picture, but it gets the job done. If you do not open the camera app, the crown will somehow control the volume setting on your phone.

Heart Rate

The HR monitor works well. It does take a bit of time and you will need to place your hand on the dial, pushing the sensors on your skin, but the reading a good. It also shows your live HR and the data is stored on a graph on the app.

Oxygen Reading

Again, not expert on how the sensor or mechanic works, but after a trial to get our oxygen reading, it said it was 99%, which according to the manual is very good.

Sports

There are lots of options for sport tracking and monitoring. You have soccer, cricket, running, boxing. The watch will track your steps, calories and other health KPIs for the sports which is recorded on the app. It works well but there is a slight issue we found. When trying to exit the sports mode for example running, the watch says to press for the crown for a while to exit. However, we found out that sometimes this does not work. Despite pressing the crown for a long time, it does not register this and the message keeps popping up. The sports features and target tracking is great, but would you want to wear a 44mm watch while boxing or playing soccer?

Compass

This feature on the Pininfarina Senso is accurate. The hands and the display will work in tandem to show you the direction you are facing and it is very fluid and reactive.

Strap

The strap is lovely and comfortable. It wraps around the wrist and sits well. There are enough holes, so if you have a small wrist this will not be an issue. The buckle has been signed with the logo and also quick release pins has been used on the strap. You can get a rubber strap or a dress strap, if you do not fancy the genuine Italian leather one.

Buy, Shortlist or Avoid?

Let us discuss the price first. The RRP of the watch is £379, which is mid market price range. It is not going to burn a hole in your pocket and you will get more or less the same type of smart watch for this price, excluding the major layers. One thing we have to remember is that the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid is designed to look like a normal watch with smart capabilities and it has achieved this perfectly.

The design and colour theme of the watch goes really well together and you will not notice this is a smart watch if the OLED display is not on.

There is a couple of small issues to deal with such as the long press of the crown to exit the sport mode may need to be looked at, or updated.

The battery life is expect to be 30 days without any feature use, but will probably last 2-3 days if your are using all the modes. Not the greatest battery expectancy but it is workable.

Overall, the Pininfarina Sintesi Hybrid is a buy for us!
